This notice covers politbeat.com. PolitBeat has no accounts, no sign-up, no comments and no advertising. You can read every page without giving us anything.

What we collect

Analytics. We use Google Analytics to count visits. When a page loads, your browser sends Google the page address and title, the page you came from, your device type, browser, operating system, screen size and language, and an approximate location worked out from your IP address. It also records scrolling, clicks on links that leave the site, file downloads and form interactions. Google Analytics does not store your IP address.

Analytics sets two cookies on politbeat.com, _ga and _ga_NKW6S4M9SC. They hold a random identifier, not your name or email, and expire after two years.

Hosting. Cloudflare serves this site. Every request passes through Cloudflare, which processes your IP address and request details to deliver the page and protect the site from abuse.

Email. If you write to us, we keep your address and your message so we can reply.

Why

We use analytics to see how many people read PolitBeat and which pages they read, so we know what is useful. We do not use it to identify you, we do not build advertising profiles, and we do not sell data. Google signals is off, so analytics data is not linked to Google accounts.

Our Google Analytics account shares data with Google for technical support, account management and to improve Google's products, under Google's data sharing settings.

How long we keep it

Google Analytics deletes event data after two months. Data tied to the random identifier is deleted after fourteen months without a visit; each new visit resets that period. The cookies last two years unless you clear them. Emails are kept for as long as it takes to deal with them.

Turning analytics off

The site works fully without analytics. Block or delete cookies for politbeat.com in your browser settings, or install Google's Analytics opt-out add-on.

Your rights

Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 you can ask for a summary of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct or erase it, nominate someone to act for you, and raise a grievance. Write to admin@politbeat.com. For analytics data, include the value of your _ga cookie, because that random identifier is the only way to find your records.

If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India. Details are on the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology site.
